What is the HHHHHMM Quality of Life Scale?

The HHHHHMM Scale (also called the Quality of Life Scale) was developed by veterinary oncologist Dr. Alice Villalobos to help pet owners and veterinarians objectively assess a pet's wellbeing. It's widely used in veterinary hospice and palliative care.

The scale measures seven key areas on a 0-10 point system:

  • Hurt – Is your pet's pain adequately controlled?
  • Hunger – Is your pet eating enough?
  • Hydration – Is your pet drinking and staying hydrated?
  • Hygiene – Can your pet stay clean and comfortable?
  • Happiness – Does your pet show joy and interest in life?
  • Mobility – Can your pet move around without too much difficulty?
  • More Good Days Than Bad – Overall, is your pet having more good days?

Our apps make it easy to track these criteria daily, visualize trends over weeks or months, and share clear reports with your veterinary team—turning emotional decisions into informed ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our pet health tracking apps, data privacy, and how to get started.

Q: Which app should I download?

A: Chronic illness or facing end-of-life decisions? → Start with Pet Quality of Life Tracker. Found a lump? → Use Pet Lump Tracker. Need comprehensive tracking for senior pets? → Try Pet Wellbeing Hub (1 module free, all modules for €2.50/month).

Q: Can I use multiple apps together?

A: Absolutely! Many pet parents use the Quality of Life Tracker for daily assessments and Pet Lump Tracker for specific skin monitoring. Each app is standalone, so use whichever combination serves your pet's needs.

Q: Can Ralph diagnose my pet's condition?

A: No, and we never will. Ralph apps are tracking tools, not diagnostic tools. We help you gather objective data about your pet's health, but diagnosis and treatment decisions should always be made in consultation with your veterinarian.

Q: Is my pet's data private?

A: Yes! Privacy protection varies by app:

  • QoL Tracker & Pet Lump Tracker: All data is stored locally on your device. We don't collect, sell, or share anything. No internet connection required. (Privacy Policy)
  • Pet Wellbeing Hub: Cloud-based with secure encryption and sync. We do NOT sell your data or track your location. Session tracking is disabled. You can delete all data anytime. (Privacy Policy)

Q: What pets are supported?

A: All apps support dogs and cats. The HHHHHMM Quality of Life Scale can be applied to any companion animal, though the body maps in Lump Tracker are specifically designed for dogs and cats.
